Montreal, September 18, 2024 - Inno-centre, a player recognized for the quality of its consulting services in enhancing the business performance of SMEs, proudly announces the launch of a new greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions estimation tool, specially designed for Quebec food manufacturer. This initiative, part of a service to raise awareness and assess the potential for reducing GHG emissions, has been made possible thanks to the financial support of the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation (MAPAQ) and the Ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP), stemming from the Plan pour une économie verte 2030, and the collaboration of the International Reference Centre for Life Cycle Assessment and Sustainable Transition (CIRAIG).
A key initiative for the biofood sector
In addition to the GHG emissions estimation tool, available free of charge to all Quebec food manufacturer, the Inno-centre-led initiative enables targeted Quebec SMEs to benefit from 200 hours of specialized coaching to optimize their business performance, by focusing on reducing their environmental impact as a key factor in their competitiveness.
To be eligible, companies must operate in the food processing sector, be located in Quebec, have sales of between $1 and $200 million, expect significant growth in the short or medium term, and commit to making reasonable efforts to achieve their GHG emission reduction goals.

A tool based on a proven methodology
The GHG emissions estimation tool launched today uses a rigorous methodology developed with the CIRAIG, based on the Extended Environmental Input-Output (EEIO) model from the OpenIO-Canada database. This tool is tailored exclusively to the food processing sector and, although its results are approximate, they provide a valuable estimate for identifying GHG contributing sources and suggest possible solutions for implementing sustainable practices.
